BMW’s new electric 3-series has been revealed, and it’s bringing back the i3 nameplate. This marks the brands second ‘Neue Klasse’ model that is designed as an electric vehicle from the ground up, with a petrol-engined counterpart set to arrive as well. The 3-series has been one the defining cars of the small executive saloon since the 1980’s, and this i3 model is set to shake it up a bit.
The i3 50 xDrive as pictured has a pair of BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive motors developing 463 hp and 476 lb-ft built around an 800-volt architecture. The battery pack consists of round cells and offers an enormous range of 559 miles. That’s 227 miles more than a Model 3, 150 more than a Polestar 2.
