Tesla’s bonkers tri-motor Plaid setup has made it’s way to the Model X SUV, and it brings with it the same high powered performance and acceleration. Consider this, a weight of well over 5,000 lbs and a 0-60 mph time of 2.5 seconds. That is exactly what the Model X Plaid is playing with, and it is more than any road car realistically needs.
The electrification of the motor car has made it easier than ever to produce big power figures, with the compact motors allowing more room to package multiples together. Add in the lack of exhaust piping and simplified cooling systems, and big power becomes a lot more achievable. The Model X Plaid features three motors all up, which combine for a total system output of 1,006 hp and 1,050 lb-ft of torque.
