The Venerable Ford Explorer just got a whole lot more interesting with the announcement of the 400 horsepower Explorer ST model ready for the 2020 model year. The 400 horsepower is courtesy of a 3.0L EcoBoost V6, which is good for 415 lb-ft (563 Nm) of torque and makes the Explorer ST Ford’s most powerful SUV ever.
The hallmark for Ford’s ST models is not only the extra power, but the fun nature inherent is the cars setup, making most ST models a joy to drive. Ford has continued this focus on fun with the all new Explorer, with the new platform developed with the ST in mind. The 10-speed automatic transmission offers quick shifts and the four-wheel drive system is controlled with a selectable traction control system. Upgrade options include an ST Street Pack and an ST Track Pack. These packs include 21-inch aluminum wheels and differing levels of brake upgrades.
