1989 Alfa Romeo SZ

Coupe · 1989

One of the more unusual car designs of the 80’s and 90’s, the Alfa Romeo SZ (Sprint Zagato) was a quirky limited-production sports car that in the end only enjoyed a short life. Production only lasted from 1989 to 1991, with a total of 1,036 units made all available in only the one colour combination, red with a grey roof and tan leather interior.

The SZ shared the same mechanicals as the Alfa Romeo 75, with production handled by Zagato at Terrazzano di Rho. The exterior body panels were of a thermoplastic injection molded composite construction, and were produced by Italian company Carplast and French company Stratime Cappelo Systems. Performance of the SZ was strong with a 3.0L V6 fitted to power the odd looking coupe. 210 PS (155 kW) of power and 181 lb-ft (245 Nm) of torque was available which helped produce a 0-62 mph acceleration time of 7 seconds.
