1967 Ford GT40 Mk IV

Coupe · 1967

As the ultimate expression of the original generation Ford GT40, the Mk IV was redesigned from scratch with state-of-the-art technology of the time. Following the 1-2-3 finish at the 1966 Le Mans 24 Hours, Ford’s development team went full steam ahead in developing an even better version of the already very successful racer.

In conjunction with Kar Kraft, Ford built a new lightweight chassis utilising adhesive bonded honeycombed-aluminum construction for a more aerodynamically slippery body. This made the GT Mk IV 9-inches longer and accommodated a special transaxle which required its own cooling system to operate.
