Volkswagen’s most powerful GTI yet is here as the ID.3 finally gets the full GTI treatment. With a single e-motor mounted on the rear axle, the ID.3 GTI has 322 hp and 402 lb-ft to play with whilst sending it all to the rear wheels only. Yep, this is a rear-wheel-drive hot hatch. It will do the 0 10 62 m sprint in 5.6 seconds and go onto a top speed of 124 mph, which is nothing special these days, but enough to please most GTI fans. The real question will be if the electric powertrain can replicate the experience of the old Golf GTI’s of the past, or be able to move beyond that expectation and carve out its own path.
