New electric Mercedes CLA45 AMG gets plenty of power, synthesised engine sounds and fake gear changes. Utilising three compact axial flux electric motors, with two positioned at the rear and the other up front, the peak power output is rated at 671 hp whilst in boost mode. Outside of that boost function, the power level drops down to 604 hp. That’s big power for the CLA, helping it achieve a 0 to 62 mph sprint of 3 seconds flat, a time that is just 0.1sec off a Mercedes-AMG One hypercar.
In an effort to retain some of the magic from the previous internal combustion engine version, Mercedes-AMG has gone to great lengths to recreate the sounds and sensations of the M133 engine. Not only does the sound project from the speakers and seats, but they have also fitted shakers designed to emulate the vibrations and resonance of the combustion engine. Continuing the theme of simulation, the new CLA45 has paddle shifters that mimic a seven-speed AMG Speedshift box.
