McLaren are undergoing a reset, and the McL 6GT concept gives us the first glimpse at their new styling direction, complete with the return of the manual gearbox. Officially this is a concept version of a brand-new McLaren supercar due in 2028, and its retro-futuristic aesthetic is a complete departure from the existing design language McLaren has used for years. The basic ingredients remain true to the McLaren ethos with a carbon tub, and a mid-mounted V8 engine. The rest is a bit of surprise. Fitting a manual transmission makes this the first car under the McLaren Automotive to have one which goes all the way back to the MP4-12C supercar in 2011. Next is the new styling which doesn’t look very McLaren at all, but does have a nice retro angle going on and might help inject some life into the British brand.
