Renault have previewed the return of the Renault 5 hatch which is set to be electric and be accompanied by a new Alpine hot hatch. Set to take on the likes of the Honda E and Mini Electric, the new Renault 5 will feature the companies all-new electric powertrain in it’s most powerful form.
The design of the Renault 5 concept is the work of Gilles Vidal, the man who penned the great looking Peugeot E-Legend concept in 2018, and sets out to be a modern take on the old Renault 5 from the 70’s and 80’s. The front fascia features a lit-up section with the Renault name front and center, which is unlikely to remain for the production version, but is a point of interest for the concept. It is flanked by two air intakes that have LED lights on the outline and act as the cars daytime running lights. The a-pillars have a red accent line that travels up and along the roof line, swooping along the top of the rear window and returning back to the other sides a-pillar. And finally the rear lights consist of lines of small horizontal LED’s aligned in a vertical layout with two of the lines extending across the entire width of the car to connect both lights.
