Volkswagen have taken the wraps off their challenger for the 2020 Baja 1000, racing in the Class 7 Open Production Unlimited class. The Atlas Cross Sport R Concept will be the first all-wheel drive vehicle to enter that class of competition in the Baja 1000. It was developed in conjunction with VW driver Tanner Foust and Baja race veteran Rhys Millen.
The engine is a 2.0L 4 cylinder turbo model, sourced from the companies WRC and Rallycross programs. Capable of up to 600 PS (441 kW) of power, or 300 PS per liter, it will be detuned to around 480 PS for increased reliability.
