The third-generation Mazda MX-5 was heralded as the most advanced evolution of the light weight sports cars yet. The main focus for the NC generation MX-5 was a fun to drive car that would be enjoyable in all driving conditions, whilst maintaining the powerful engine and a lightweight, compact body combination.
With a curb weight coming in at under 1 tonne, the MX-5 engineers made sure nothing was added that wasn’t absolutely needed, with any aspect of the car that could be made lighter done so within the cost restrictions of the cars target market.
